The Department of Romance Studies is part of the Faculty of Philological and Cultural Studies and is looking for a university assistant (6 years) in French or Hispanic/Spanish studies.

Job Description:
Active participation in research, teaching and administration. This involves
– Developing and strengthening the independent research profile
– Involvement in research projects / research studies
– International publications and presentations
– Responsibility for project applications and the acquisition of third-party funding
– Preparing / writing a habilitation thesis
– Independent teaching of courses as defined by the collective agreement
– Supervision of students
– Participation in evaluation measures and quality assurance
– Involvement in the department administration as well as in teaching and research administration

Profile:
Your profile within the field of Romance Studies focusses on French and Spanish/Hispanic Literature and Culture Studies. Your research activities include historical and contemporary topics and contribute to a (discourse-analytical) reflection about actual political, social and cultural debates. You are experienced with the analysis and interpretation of both literary texts and films. Your ideas for a habilitation project to develop in the course of the employment refer preferably to the end of the 19th century in France or Spain.

In addition, we expect the successful candidate to have:
– Finished outstanding doctorate in the domain of French and Spanish Literature/Cultural Studies
– Lively publication activity (articles, volumes etc.) corresponding to the qualification level
– Didactic competences: wide-ranging teaching experience in the field of Literature, Media und Culture Studies, experience with the supervision of students
– Experience in science management (applications for funding, conference organization, editorship etc.)
– Familiarity with university procedures and structures
– High ability to express yourself both orally and in writing
– Excellent command of written and spoken English
– IT user skills
– Ability to work in a team

Desirable qualifications are:
– Experience of working with e-learning
– Experience of working on research projects
– Publications in renowned, subject-relevant media (peer-reviewed, depending on the professional standards)
– International presentation experience
