Asa – American Studies Association is looking for a Digital Content Editor.
the job will start on December 1, 2017. This is a 4-year appointment with the 4th year devoted to a smooth transition of the office as a new editor is appointed.
The American Studies Association is seeking an editor to advance the association’s mission online, including the creation of “open, diverse, and dynamic” spaces in digital formats to support our members’ scholarly work and professional lives.
We seek an editor with acuity of vision and ability to think digitally, particularly as it relates to effective communication, and the management of communication on different scales, big and small. This includes a working relationship with the assistant executive director (AED), the executive director (ED), and the National Council (NC) to whom the editor will report. The editor would help to build forge institutional links nationally such as with JHUP, the host of the website, and transnationally with various centers and institutions around the world. Other responsibilities include helping to support and implement the projects of task forces, chapters, committees, and caucuses in consultation with the AED, ED or NC. The editor is expected to maintain current membership status in the association.
This inaugural appointment will shape ASA’s public profile, digital resources, and communication strategies in years to come. The ASA commits $15k/year stipend to support the editor’s work through securing local graduate assistance where appropriate, and to defray other related expenses. The editor may also receive dedicated assistance from one of the graduate assistants who staff the association office on a part-time basis. These arrangements will be shaped specifically in accordance with the editor’s needs. Applicants should also request for institutional support from their home institutions.
September 30, 2017. We solicit both nominations of and applications from ASA members, and hope to elicit exciting ideas that would further ASA’s online work. Nominators can simply send the contact information of the nominee. Applications are due 30 September 2017, with anticipated start date of 1 December 2017, and should include the following:
- The applicant’s sense of how ASA’s digital presence can be mobilized to further the association’s aims;
- Relevant background and experience;
- A preliminary sketch of budgetary and staffing needs; and,
- Explanation of institutional support sought and anticipated.
