Starting in April 2020, the a.r.t.e.s. Graduate School for the Humanities Cologne, the Graduate School of the Faculty of Arts and Humanities of the University of Cologne, will award 8 doctoral scholarships and up to 6 scholarships for a practice- and profession-oriented doctorate funded by the Stiftung Mercator.

The application deadline for the scholarships offered by the a.r.t.e.s. Graduate School for the Humanities Cologne is set on 31st October 2019.

The a.r.t.e.s. Graduate School – successful in the German Universities Excellence Initiative – provides a valuable opportunity to pursue a doctorate through a structured doctoral model of intensive supervision and interdisciplinary research. Seeking to bridge the disciplinary divide between the humanities and the natural sciences, a.r.t.e.s. focuses on the complex intersections between language, history, culture, mediality, anthropology, and ethics.

In order to be admitted and subsequently enrolled, all applicants must submit their application via a.r.t.e.s. access.

Which documents have to be included in the application depends on whether the university degree was acquired in Germany or a foreign country, and on whether it is directly connected to the chosen discipline or possibly only indirectly.

With regard to the subsequent process of enrolment, please see the website of the Registrar’s Office or the International Office.

Please apply by October 31, 2019.
