Pre-call for applications for “Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions – Individual Fellowships” at the The Institute for Mediterranean Studies / Foundation of Research and Technology – Hellas (IMS/FORTH)
WHEN / WHERE
Researchers accepted for this scheme will spend 12-24 months at IMS/FORTH, located in Rethymno, Crete (Greece), in order to conduct research, prepare publications, engage in knowledge transfer, and develop their professional networks.
The Institute for Mediterranean Studies / Foundation of Research and Technology – Hellas (IMS/FORTH) invites pre-applications for
researchers who wish to apply, jointly with a research supervisor from IMS/FORTH, to the “Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions – Individual
Fellowship” Programme (MSCA-IF-2018), funded by the European Commission. The Programme offers a competitive salary, research costs, mobility and family allowances. IMS/FORTH welcomes pre-applications for the following research fields:
a) Ottoman history, and preferably (but not exclusively): Ottoman magic and occult texts, beliefs and practices, as well as the history of Ottoman sciences and philosophy. Applicants must have a doctoral degree in Ottoman literature or history and are expected to be well acquainted with Ottoman Turkish, Arabic, Greek, Armenian, or Hebrew manuscripts of the Ottoman pre-Tanzimat period.
b) Economic and social history of industrialisation and labour in the Mediterranean and the Balkans (18th-20th centuries), as well as social history of technology, science and medicine. A gender perspective on these topics is very welcome. Applicants must have a doctoral degree in History/History of Technology or in similar disciplines.
c) Maritime history in the Eastern Mediterranean and the Black Sea, 18th-20th century. Applicants must have a doctoral degree in economic, social and/or cultural history and are expected to be acquainted with at least one language of the area.
d) Gender and Theatre during the Belle époque era in the Eastern Mediterranean and the Black Sea: Playwrights, Performers and Performances, Plays, Audience. Applicants must have a doctoral degree in Theatre/Cultural or Social/Gender Studies and are expected to be well acquainted with English (and/or Greek) language.
e) Geo-informatics approaches (one or a combination of: Geophysical Prospection, Satellite Remote Sensing, Geographical Information Systems, Photogrammetry and virtual reality, fusion of spatial data) in the fields of cultural and natural domain.
A complete draft of the application must be prepared by July 31 and the final version of the project must be ready by August 31, 2018. IMS/FORTH has an extensive and prestigious record of hosting international doctoral and postdoctoral fellows. Over the last years, it has hosted both Intra-European Marie Curie Fellows and doctoral/postdoctoral fellows recruited in the context of national and EU research projects. Researchers who wish to cooperate with IMS/FORTH for the submission of a proposal should check that they fulfill the respective eligibility
criteria and then send an expression of interest, consisting of a short CV and a two-page summary presentation of their research
proposal, to Dr. Marinos Sariyannis (firstname.lastname@example.org). Expressions of interest may be submitted up to April 15, 2018.
Proposals will then be pre-selected by IMS/FORTH on the basis of internal evaluation and the availability of suitable supervision.
Selected applicants will be informed of the results of the pre-selection by the end of May and will be invited to prepare their full proposal in collaboration with an IMS/FORTH supervisor.
Applicants can be of any nationality but they must not have spent morethan 12 months in Greece during the 36 months prior to the call
deadline, which is September 12, 2018. The project proposal will be submitted jointly by the researcher and IMS/FORTH.
